FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Teledyne Construction to Debut a Robotic Utilities Survey System at The Utility Expo 2025 in Kentucky

Daytona, FL –September 30, 2025— Teledyne Construction announced today that it will showcase a new concept demonstrator comprised of the UPAC Lite EM2 Utilities Survey System and the Kobra 725 Unmanned Ground System (UGS) at The Utility Expo in Louisville, KY. This marks the first time this robotic solution will be introduced at a U.S. construction trade show, delivering defense-grade reliability to commercial markets.

The Kobra UGS multi-purpose tracked platform delivers advanced maneuverability and rugged performance in the most demanding environments. Forged in defense and now reimagined for the construction industry, Kobra is equipped with Teledyne’s lightweight, compact UPAC Lite EM² Utilities Survey System, providing teleoperated buried-utility mapping capabilities for large-scale infrastructure projects.

The UPAC Lite EM2 is a scaled-down version of the UPAC System deployed on manned Skid Steers, which is commonly used to survey for buried utilities in large open areas and construction sites. By combining these two field-proven technologies, the Robotic Utilities Survey System can be remotely operated and access hard-to-reach areas to provide a more complete survey.

Cutting Edge Pre-Surveying Capabilities Include:

  • Locate, map, and track buried ferrous and non-ferrous metal utilities, including pipes, cables, manhole covers, and even Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), at depths exceeding 12 feet.
  • Intuitive teleoperated controls ensure safe operation around sensitive equipment and infrastructure, improving survey coverage of unmapped areas.
  • Increase field safety with teleoperated pre-surveys in hazardous or unknown ground conditions.
  • Easily map site and utility data into leading construction planning solutions, including Trimble Siteworks and Trimble Business Center. Data from the survey can be quickly exported to create actionable project plans.

A Leap Forward in Construction Surveying

“With this unique system, Teledyne Construction is delivering an integrated solution that merges defense-grade reliability with advanced underground utility mapping capabilities—empowering teams to survey smarter, safer, and faster. Built on the robust Kobra 725 UGS platform and equipped with a UPAC Lite EM² sensor, this new tool transforms underground utility surveys into a streamlined, data-driven process for large-scale utility projects.”– Vitad Pradith, Senior Director of Technology - Teledyne Construction.”
